ABEH

The ABEH (Brazilian Association of Homocultural Studies) is a non-profit association with the purpose of encouraging and realizing exchange and research on homosexuality, homoerotism, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender studies and queer theory. The Association, which was founded on June 13th 2001, in Niterói – a city in Rio de Janeiro State – on Universidade Federal Fluminense (Federal Fluminense University), has the participation of professors, graduation and post-graduation students, researchers and interested people.

Objectives

- To encourage critical thinking on homosexuality by stimulating research and academic debate, and knowledge exchange among researchers and interested people.

- To create a national and international permanent debate forum of discussion and exchange of experiences about visibility of several expressions and discourses of homoculture in Brazil and in the world.

- To stimulate academic researchers from different areas and institutions, intending to build intersubject knowledge by incorporating several areas of knowledge on homoculture’s debate.

To gather and encourage Brazilian universities researchers on homoculture.

- To contribute to the development and maintenance of scientific studies which are interested in educational and social politics in favor of Brazilian sexual minorities.
